Relaxation

  What is Stress?
The word stress has become very commonly used in our society.  Stress is actually a symptom caused by pressure.  Stress means the inability to cope with pressure.  Our ability to think and react positively to pressure is a powerful element in overcoming stress.

When looking at dealing with stress holistically, balance is the key.  This means we need to attend to all the facets of our lives to create a harmonious lifestyle that enables us to completely relax.  The four main areas of life are:  friends, home, work and creative play.

We also need to learn how to relax and re-train our bodies response to pressure.  Relaxation is one of the most important things you can do for yourself.  Relaxation is the act of relaxing the mind and body, and can also be defined as the state of being relaxed.

Relaxation therapy
restores harmony and helps to create conditions for optimum living.  It also assists in the releasing of physical and mental tensions.  Relaxation therapy is non-intrusive and gentle.  Regularly inducing relaxation is most effective in improving day to day living, and results in increased control over the body's responses to stress.

What are the Benefits of Relaxation Therapy?
Relaxation therapy provides possible benefits for people being treated for medical conditions and as home relaxation treatments to reduce stress and other problems related to stress and anxiety. Some of those benefits include:

  • Reduction of stress and anxiety
  • Increased ability to cope with pain
  • Increased ability to cope with stressful events
  • Increased ability to keep emotional problems under control
  • Increased feeling of well-being
  • Increased ability to concentrate
  • Improved concentration
  • Improved sleep
  • Improved breathing
  • Reduced muscle tension
  • Lowered blood pressure
  • Lowered heart rate
  • Decreased pain

During a relaxation exercise muscle tension decreases, blood pressure goes down, the mind becomes calm, and the harmful effects of prolonged stress are counteracted.

What Can I Do For You?
The aim of relaxation therapy is to quiet the mind; to allow thoughts to flow in a smooth, level rhythm, and induce the relaxation response. This mental quiet allows for rest and rejuvenation that does not always occur, even during sleep.

Relaxation therapy does not attempt to empty the mind, since it is not possible to think of nothing. In relaxation, we focus the mind, and relax both mind and body.

During your initial relaxation session, we will discuss areas of concerns, current responses to stress, daily and on-going stressors and your four main areas of life.  You will also complete a Stress and Relaxation Survey.  Everyone's response to pressure and relaxation are different.  We will choose what stress-relieving methods are best for you.

Some techniques:

counseling - active and reflective listening
exercise - for your physical and subtle body
progressive relaxation - guided
meditation - visual, sound, breathing or guided
visualization - guided imagery
touch - cleansing the aura and balancing energies

In addition, many times sound, aromatherapy and color will accompany to your relaxation session.

You will also be guided in re-training your bodies response to stress and pressure.

The cost for this is:
$35.00 for one hour session
$20.00 for one-half hour session
